Thursday walking around wangfujing.

i wanted to pick up those Chinese language learning books so i went with hua back to wangfujing the chi-chi shopping district that i went to on Monday.

the pic on the left is one of the larger shopping malls in the area. There seem to be at least two and probably more. This one is seven stories tall and each floor covers lots of floor space. Above the third floor though the stores get pretty sparse. Looks like they are trying to attract more place and having some trouble. There were also a couple of places that had gone out of business.

We looked in the department store that was connected and hua was so excited because he could finally find pants that fit him instead of the large ones he had been wearing that he bought in the us. i was disappointed because all the clothes i saw would never fit me.

this is another smaller department store that we were in. They offered a couple of tea rooms and three floors of shopping. Nothing too exciting.

this is the bookstore where i got my Chinese language books. It seems to be independent and is huge. Five floors of books and every floor is crammed with people. It is cool to see that many people out excited about books but makes it hard to get around in. The English language section here is pretty big but mostly filled with language books and old penguin classic type books like Jane eyre. The cash register is another battle zone. Whoever can get the attention of the cashier wins. No such thing as lines.

a money tree in the mall. You hang up some money and your wish comes true. Pretty good deal.

the fanciest Hagen-daez i have ever seen. They have wait staff for bringing out your ice cream and serve things like huge bowls of fondue with tons of cakes and dipping treats. It was pretty popular as well. There were no empty tables and it was bitter cold outside. Why would so many people, myself included, want ice cream when it was close to -20 Celsius with the wind chill outside?

music recommendation for the day is the misfits - the misfits - plan 9. Back when they were at the top of their game, danzig could sing and although not very technical their music is great anthemic rock. Besides all of their songs are about zombies or aliens or elvira, you gotta love it.
